Wilderness

A total of 4329 animal species have been established in the Eastern Rhodopes. There are 278 species of birds in the region. The Eastern Rhodopes are the only breeding locality for the Griffon vulture in Bulgaria and the most important breeding area for the globally threatened Egyptian vulture on the Balkan peninsula.

Organic Farming

In 2013, New Thracian Gold (NTG) project organizes for the third time two contests „Eastern Rhodopestaste the wild nature: 1: for the most interesting travel story and 2: for the best photo. We’d like to see in your texts and photos a combination or one of the three NTG-elements: wilderness/nature, ecotourism or organic farming. Read here more

Tourism

Eastern Rhodopes are a great destination for tourism and recreation. See here the options of the Long distance trail for walking and biking, which official opening is expected in 2013. The Route and the map on it will be presented at the Green Days in April in Sofia.
